Who are we?
Bayerische Medien Technik GmbH (bmt) was founded in 1994 as a subsidiary of Bayerische Landeszentrale für neue Medien (Bavarian regulatory authority for new media) (BLM) and Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian Broadcasting) (BR). bmt offers its services to all partners in the dual broadcasting system for implementing projects in the field of digital broadcasting. The focus of its work is on development and services for private radio and television companies in Bavaria. In addition, bmt prepares studies and provides consulting services in all its business areas.
bmt focuses on software development (apps, HbbTV, TPEG products) and services (TV playout, FM transmitter network operation, frequency measurements) for private radio and television companies in Bavaria. A wide range of projects in the distribution of audio and video for all partners in the dual broadcasting system has enabled the company to build comprehensive expertise in the digital media sector.
What do we do?
bmt has a high level of expertise in handling and managing projects in the field of digital information processing in the media sector. In its role as managing body in various projects, it acts as a centre for comprehensive information exchange and knowledge transfer between all project partners involved, and ensures that project goals are implemented on time and in line with requirements, and that they are presented to the public. Dipl. economist Frank Strässle
Managing Director
Frank Strässle has been Managing Director at Bayerische Medien Technik (bmt) GmbH, a subsidiary of Bayerischer Rundfunk and Bayerische Landeszentrale für neue Medien, since 2002. The economist and TV editor is mainly involved in the further development of broadcasting by combining broadcasting and streaming technologies, such as HbbTV (media libraries, local TV portal, HbbTV reach measurement), streaming intelligence apps (MyRadio) or telematics applications (TPEG). In addition, Strässle was head of the DVB-T project office in Bavaria from 2004 – 2014 and deputy head of project office of DVB-T2 HD Germany from 2015 – 2017. In 2018, bmt acquired the VHF infrastructures for private radio broadcasting in Bavaria on behalf of the Bavarian private radio providers and has since become the second largest private antenna owner in Germany.
Rainer Biehn
Technical Manager and Deputy Managing Director
Rainer Biehn has been with bmt since 1995 and, as Technical Manager and Deputy Managing Director since 1999, is responsible for the coordination and implementation of tech projects and products. After obtaining a degree in electrical engineering with a focus on telecommunications, he initially worked on the simulation of error protection mechanisms for Digital Radio DAB at the Institut für Rundfunktechnik (Institute for Broadcast Technology). In addition to project coordination, he is also regularly involved in the implementation of our products and has implemented the design and layout of DVB Playout.
